Marsh Wren II

This is the same marsh Wren I posted a week or so ago. I consider this an "If only" image. In this case, if only that reed hadn't been so close. I really like the eyes closed-beak wide concentration of the Wren, but the reed bothers me and I don't have the skill to remove it.

7D, 500mm f4 ISL + 1.4TC, propped on blind window, f8, 1/800, iso 400, Av mode with no compensation. Cropped to 11.8MP and processed in CS6.

Your comments and criticisms are very much appreciated.

Thanks for looking,

Shooting into this environment there is almost always "if only" or two. Nice to get one of these little guys this far out into the clear.

Wonderful shot Dennis, I agree with everything you said - the closed eye pose is ridiculously great and the reed is bothersome even though you keep trying to get over it because of the shot...

And Ridgefield is very cool - I took my son down to a chess tournament in Vancouver a couple weekends ago and we drove through for the first time and we were both blown away by the variety there. We drove through again on our way out of town even though it got us home very late that night. I'm envious you're so close

So what Dennis, the look on the wren is well worth the shot, these little guys don't come out in the open very often. It was a feat just to get that shot through the tangle of reeds. :toast:

Have you tried toning down the exposure selectively on the reeds? Not sure if it would make much of a difference since it is so close, but maybe it won't be quite as distracting. I do like the pose also Dennis.

I think this works great even with the reeds -- after all, that's where you see these guys, isn't it? The pose makes up for any deficiencies. I agree that toning down the bright areas on the reeds would improve the shot.

Wonderful pose and shot...the reeds don't bother me a bit...this is where they live. Sharon

Very nice Dennis. Love these little guys, they are so difficult to get out in the open. I like the eye shut concentrating on the singing pose.
