On Boston Common 6.00 am.
Would have loved to get him without the branch directly behind him, and may play with software to remove it - but for now an leaving it in.

Nikon D7000, Nikon 300mm f4, w/ 1.4 tc @ 420.
1/500, f/5.6 ISO 160

Cropped to approx 50% of original

Thanks
Iain

Very different look at a nuthatch. Agree with your self assessment about the branch. For me a bigger issue is the bird isn't quite sharp. Not sure where the focus point was looking at the image.

Nice catch, Iain. The branch behind him doesn't bother me much. The Nuthatch looks a bit soft in the larger version. Are you using a tripod?

If it were mine, I'd try a bit more selective sharpening on the bird.

I agree with comments on the sharpness Iain, not easy to focus in these circumstances and these guys move all the time. The branch does not bother me either. :toast:

No tripod on this one - Hand-held. Which I think is the problem - hand held at 1/500 on a 420mm lens. His breast freathers seem to be okay, but he was moving his head a lot (preening). I may try to work on it a bit with selective sharpening because I love the unusual posture.

Thanks!!
