Barred Owl

This fellow came in a couple of weeks ago and stayed for two days, my Labrador barking at it and the crows harassing it did not deter his stay. Hunger for nearby squirrels overcame its shyness. I was amazed at its steadfastness which gave me a chance to get close enough for a shot.

Cropped to about 85% of original and brightened the eyes a bit.

1/320s at f/4.5 -0.67EV ISO 400 with 6oomm f/4 on D3X.

A beautiful bird indeed Claude. Nice pose and the perch is not too distracting.

Nice work getting close to this subject Claude. I personally have never found one in the wild, so hats off to you. I like the head turn, pose and position of the owl. My only nit is the twig that intersects on his back.

Like the muted background colors - agree with Kurt about the twig

Claude,
Nice daytime capture for this guy, looks like you caught him napping and trying to stay warm. Image works for me as posted.

The muted background others have mentioned really helps that plumage pop. Nice find, Claude.

Really nice image Claude, I like the little hunch pose it has, conveys its long-sufferingness  I'm a little distracted by the brightness in the upper left corner, though, and/or by all the negative space up that way.

What a interesting find and any opportunity to photograph an owl is really great. I do not know if it was possible to approach more from the front of the owl and possibly create a better background but a wonderful shot as is, way to go.

Very nice! I love these guys and sometimes they are extremely tolerant of humans.

Excellent, Claude. The plumage detail really comes through in the larger image, and the subdued light in the eyes gives the owl a really neat look.

Beautiful shot, the owl stands out well against the muted background. I like the stare.
