Hopi Point Sunburst

I took this picture during my visit to the Grand Canyon for spring break last year. I was waiting for sunset at Hopi Point and decided to capture the silhouette of this tree (juniper?) while waiting for the canyon to change colors. It is one of my favorite shots from the entire trip. This is my first landscape post on NPN, so please let me know what you think!

I think the silhouette was a god choice considering the lighting. The tree has some nice details and form and nicely reaches across the frame. I would have loved to see a little more into the canyon so I had some context to where this was, but I think you handled the light the best way possible. Hope you had a fantastic trip.

A very nice first landscape, Sean. I'll second Harry's thoughts on this image.

I like your idea here. I would have included a bit more space on the right side of the tree, and the image could be brightened a bit, but overall a good shot.

Sean,

A little late to the party, but I wanted to welcome you to NPN and the Landscape Gallery! This is a nicely composed sundown image and a lovely first post. I like the comp because it's well balanced and whether on purpose or not, makes a great example of the "rule of thirds." Nice job with the sun star as well.

The only nitpick I have is that there seems to be quite a bit of dust or something in the sky on the left. You might consider cleaning those up.

Welcome! We look forward to your images and participation in the galleries and discussion forums. Don't be shy!
