This photo of Hog Island Shoals Lighthouse, one of Rhode Island's lighthouses (it's in the water that separates Aquidneck Island -- Newport-Middletown-Portsmouth -- from Bristol County), was taken last June from a marine research vessel belonging to Save the Bay, an environmental organization that advocates for the well-being of Narragansett Bay.

The centered comp works well to show off this trusty (and rusty) lighthouse. The lighting helps highlight the lighthouse and give a beautiful blue color to the water. Nice portrait of this lighthouse, Nancy. I enjoy viewing lighthouses but don't think I've ever seen one quite like this before.

. I like how you have detail in the whites and the shadows of the old light house. Seems to be a bit of a magenta cast to the sky. Thanks for sharing.

Now that lighthouse has some character. :smile: It looks like it has withstood the test of time and tides. Nice shot.

I totally agree with the previous comments regarding the rust, character, test of time and center placement. I like the strong shadows, color contrasts of red and green, blue and yellow, and I also think the white clouds add to the overall visual effect.

Great view of this beauty. I read recently that considerations are being made to pull all funding for Light Houses in the US coastal waters. They are being deemed unnecessary due to GPS and other electronics mandated and available to marine vessels. Soon these beautiful, life saving and romantic structures may be following the same path as my old Loran System. Don't you just love progress . . . :confused:
