ROCKS NEAR MY JOINT
by Barry Ashenhurst
Autumn evening, nice light, two rocks, what the hell? I wanted it subtle and creamy. Two exposures for tonal range, blended manually coz I can’t get any other method to work reliably.
I made one exposure for the shadowed rocks and one for the sky. I made a duplicate copy of the rock image in Screen mode, which lightened everything, then put it under the first image and brushed in shadow detail from the Screen layer.
I added a Multiply Blend layer to the sky image, then a mask, then inverted the mask and brushed in Multiply’s zappy contrast along the lighter edges of the cloud. Whole thing took half an hour tops. Mainly ‘cause I was hungry.
