Pliocene Truffle

I went on a road trip to Idaho last weekend, and while most of the time I didn't see much other than dry sage and ranch/potato land, there were a few real gems! I took this in a "deep" basalt slot canyon, which reminded me of ancient melted and half eaten chocolates.

A few more strange rocks on my blog (link below).

Thanks for your thoughts!

Floris, looks like a scene from Mars. A place where you must have made many more images. Love this one and will visit your blog.

Excellent Floris! Unique looking subject matter, well presented. The light is noticable, there is an metallic look to it. No chocolate - heavy metal, because this one rocks!...

Stunning interplay of shapes, light and textures for me, Floris. I like the way your composition leads me into the depth of the image and enjoy eyploring the complexity of the canyon walls.

Wonderful shapes and tones to this Floris. Interesting abstract shape and I like the blue tints. Nice composition. Very nice image.

That is a great rock, and the combination of blue and brown tints is fantastic! I do agree with Dietrich that it looks more like metal to me than chocolate. I wouldn't eat chocolate with these colors.... Well done!

This reminds me of a piece of whale vertebrae. Great textures and soft subtle colors. Would look cool printed large

This is really cool. Looks like a wonderful location. You did a fine job with this image...the composition works great and the range of blues, grays, and browns makes for a nice combination.

Very unique image Floris. I really like how the surface of the rock looks almost metallic. Nice comp and sharpness throughout the frame. I enjoyed the other images on your blog, especially "Basalt Galaxy".

I really like this, Floris--great subject! To be super picky (me? never...) It feels a bit 2D to me--im wondering if a lower or different angle might have helped. Still a keeper for sure.

Thanks Stan - unfortunately there were not a whole lot of compositional degrees of freedom since there were bright highlights on the walls to the left and rear, so a lower perspective would have brought some of those into the image...
