Shy Albatross

Had a great time on a recent pelagic off south western Victoria. There were lots of birds and they were very hungry. A group of about 30 albatross followed the boat from out on the shelf back into within a few 100 metres of the harbour (about 35km).

5D3 300/f4
ISO 1600 f8 1/6400

I really didn't need such a high ISO but had this high from earlier in the day when it was very dull and forgot to change it.

cheers
Rob

That's great Rob. Nicely exposed and good action capture.
Love the spray behind the bird and love the yellow tip of the bill.

Excellent take-of image (?) , I like all about it. Good detail in the difficult plumage as well ! Cheers, Hans

I like the timing of this image. Nice position of the bird and splash. Great job with the exposure. Nice capture. Isn't it great to get away with ISO 1600 and still have such a clean image. The 5D3 is a marvelous camera.

Love the action of this shot, the yellow tip of the bird's bill and the fierce expression on its face.A great motion capture.

Excellent, even with the high ISO. In fact I never would have suspected it was that high.

Wonderful action here - sharp bird and great water.
That little bit of black wingtip by the head could be cloned out..
