I still want to do something fresh for this weekly challenge, but couldn't resist uploading this work of art. While in southern Florida last month, we happened upon an Asian Festival where a fruit carving demonstration was taking place. This was one of the finished pieces. Taken with my Powershot SX30, ISO 80, 1/125, f/7, at 119mm focal length under natural light, hand held. Comments always welcome!

Great interest, it's a fruit carving wonder!
One possible suggestion for improvement would've been to slide the basket RT of the frame?
Just a thought, great as posted! :wavey:

Wow! It's hard to imagine the vision it took the artist to make this; sculptures are usually three dimensional but this one combines color with that for another level of complexity. Definitely too beautiful to eat!

The only other thing I'd like to see is a picture of the sculpture. Great shot!

That just amazing, except for the fact you don't want to eat it now... Great find Jim, a crop to just show the carved section could make a cool image too.

Wow, what amazing artistry. . .and all too soon it will perish. Sounds like it would be a very interesting thing to watch the artist carving this wonder. The baskets do help show context but a plain background could also be done in editing to help showcase the carving more. Impressive stuff. . .!

You have found a truly amazing object to photograph. Given the framing options, it is interesting that you chose this one. It both tells the story and concentrates attention on the subject. An all-purpose approach. It works for me. Your illumination worked very well in this instance. Not sure where it is coming from, but it is mellow and nicely diffused.

This is way cool! I have a hard time imagining the effort that went into this, (but then this carver would probably think that spending 3 - 4 hours "de-artifacting" some of my stacks is crazy  ). Yeah, uncluttered surrounding would be cool, but that would probably get your hands slapped...or worse.
