Jaws

I was at Green Cay Wetlands on vacation and watched as this large gator (who I nicknamed jaws due to his misaligned jaw) belly crawled through the shadows toward the boardwalk. It was perfect timing for me and after I looked at the initial shots I thought it would be a great B&W conversion

Nikon D7100 300mm f4 HH
f/6.3
1/400s
ISO 500

Cropped to pano and minor alignment adjustment. Processed in LR4 and CS5

Great perspective and depth of focus make this a very sinister-looking image, like get out of the water right now! I don't know if it is the BW or processing (might be the time of day and light), but it seems that the details of the eye area are somewhat lost. I'd be interested to see a color version to see if the details stand out more. Composition is also effective in adding to the potential bad intentions, I knew there was a reason I stay away from swamps.

Hi Luke, nice head-on view. I think that the gator would stand out better if the water was still, but I know this is not under your control. I'm curious what the broader habitat looks like, part of me wants to see him in an environmental context; the gator has certainly provided a great pose for this.

Luke, I like the almost hard detail of eyes and forehead. B&W works fine for me, and you made a strong composition with this nice low perspective.

An intimate shot of an encounter with a gator. The position of the front lags gives it the feeling that it is stalking you as you took the image.

Quite an intriguing shot Luke. The low angle and the visible front legs almost make me feel threatened, as if he is about to strike from the water  . Without knowing how the colour version looks like, I do wonder why you chose for B&W. One disadvantage IMO of B&W here is that the eyes are rendered black holes and sort of get lost amongst the many textures.

I agree, B&W works great for this Luke.
Excellent impact, your POV and comp has optimized its deadly intentions.
The killer instinct is alive & well here
