This Side Of Reality

Thank you for the wonderful feedback on these stone photos. The subject matter is simple and I am glad they are evoking some response.

I continued to look on that beach for more interesting shapes, colors (although faint) and textures. This was the next one. I was not sure if this one would translate well, but I did use TK masks on this one quite heavily to bring out the subtle colors. I tried to keep it on this side of reality and that is where the title for this photo came from as well as the title for the blog post that showcased all the stone photos from this outing.

Your thoughts are much appreciated. The larger version is revealing.

wonderful series. you have an eye for these stone portraits, the colors and shapes are most interesting. my only nit with this one is that it seems a little on the dark side. great job using the natural channels to lead my eye through this image.

Youssef, I just love the light, color and textures in this, and nice work on the comp as well. I think the darker mood this has really works nice in this shot. Beautiful work!

I've been away from NPN for a while so I just took a look at your previous posts in this series, and really enjoyed them. I like this one, too, but on a somewhat different level. It seems more literal than the others, possibly due to the fact that it features rock formations with definate boundaries surrounded by a clear natural background, and therefore less abstract. I get the impression that your results are partly from an artistic eye and partly from excellent processing which makes the forms even more interesting to view. I would really enjoy seeing a good series of these on a wall.

Lots of interesting shapes and colors to savor in this intimate landscape, Youssef. The mood is a little more somber in this one because of the darker areas. This has been an interesting series so far.

Wonderful shapes and tones in this Youssef. I like how you used the dark areas to bring out form in the rocks. Really nice.

A very beautiful and haunting image. The deep shadows are wonderful and provide a good sense of depth.
