Under The Seagrapes II
by Kory Lidstrom
Found this spot on adorable little Coconut Island in Hilo, Hawaii. The leaves on this seagrape tree were starting to turn color and fall, creating a nice carpet AND, more importantly, allowing the sun to backlight the leaves making them glow a brilliant red. The sun and clouds cooperated perfectly, something that does NOT happen often in Hilo, which happens to be the rainiest city in the entire United States.
When I returned to this spot a week and a half later, all the leaves were gone.
If you look very closely at the horizon, you can see a seawall which was installed in the early 20th century to protect against tsunamis. Technically, I know that means I'm supposes to post this in Man & Nature, but I didn't because A) very few people look there and B) this is close enough to a traditional landscape. Hope you don't mind.

13 commentsSea grapes, IMO are quite photogenic. Your FOV gives a 3D effect.
Morris, I left the boat in on purpose. On a large print, it looks pretty cool, I think. The truth is I could've cloned out the entire seawall if I'd really wanted to. But, I didn't want to -- the wall is part of Hilo.
