Creation & Destruction

The forces of fire and water collide as this molten lava stream pours into a tumultuous sea. The waves are receding here, and you can see some of the glowing lava being pulled out to sea near the contact point.

I chose to let the lava stream clip completely to white here. While I wouldn't normally do that, I feel that it can work in instance where the lava doesn't take up much of the frame as is the case here. I was going for a moody and ominous feel.

5DMk2, f/4.5, .8 seconds, 200mm, ISO 100 Best viewed in a dark room.

Hmm, for some reason this looks overstaturated on NPN. Here is a version that is closer to what I was intending.

I love the image Kory. Great job. Red like this is always awesome. Love the red light on the water. What I don't like is how these photos never do justice to the power and awe of being here and actually seeing this! Thanks for posting this.

Very cool. I love the dark and moody presentation. Almost sinister in a beautiful way.

Not many lava images get me interested, but as Mike said, the sinister nature of this really is alluring. Harsh and bright on the right, soft and dark on the left, I really enjoy gazing on this one....

Very nice job. I love the waves of lines in the BG, leading to the lava.

Moody and brooding. Love the dark contrasted with the bright strip of lava. This just screams hot. Hope to shoot this stuff someday.

Very imaginative and artistic. Your accomplished your purpose in the presentation very well. This is one of the more interesting lava shots I have seen. Great image. I would love to be able to shot the lava flow someday.

Absolutely wonderful. You know I love dark and mysterious! I'd shift a bit more towards blue if it were mine, but either way, really.

Good decision with the exposure level. I love the detail and subtle lighting on the waves and the bright streaks of lava in the URC. And you really get a sense of the lava dripping into the water, nicely composed. I also think I like your original post better, to me this seems like a naturally saturated scene.

Intense - Looks like a lava lamp tipped over. No problem for me with the nearly white lava stream. How much detail could there be anyway? My fav. partof the image is actually the red surf portion. Very unique. :toast:
