Here's another small icicle hanging from a Magnolia leaf. We had perfect icicle conditions for this tree a couple of times this winter (light snow followed by bright sun and temps below freezing). I'll be watching carefully, but I suspect that it will be years before I see lots of these again. This was taken at nearly 1:1 magnification. (5D3, 100mm macro L, 1/320 s, f/6.3, iso 800, tripod, -2EV) There was a pretty steady breeze, hence the high iso to get a fast shutter.

Great comp, techs, and adapted settings, excellent details in the LP.
I especially like the layers of color BG, and the tiny ice 'bubbles' so well seen.
Your new handle? The 'Iceman' of course
Very nice Mark!

Another nice image Mark. I enjoy the overall comp, color, the intersecting lines of the leaves and detail in the droplet. Well done. :toast: :toast:

Mark, this is exceptional. Humans tend to think that the world exists on our scale where in fact there's much more that exists on the micro and macro scale. The large version is simply fascinating. :toast:

Very cool shot Mark! Great find and very well captured, especially for the conditions.

Mark, you are inspiring me to try to make some of these next winter. However, I don't think I can duplicate mother nature. I like the drop shape of the icicle and the excellent view of the intricate design of the bubbles within the icicle.

Really neat compositional elements- the intersecting diagonal lines of the leaves, the diagonal flow of the water off the leaf leading into the horizontal air bubbles. I don't know if you planned all that, but it really turned out nice!

Mark:
A fascinating image. There is so much intricate pattern formed by the air bubbles in the icicles. The sine shape curve in the bg is very nice too.

This is my favorite of these so far! The reflection of the yellow from the back leaf makes it look like the drop is coming out of a tiny spigot! This is very strong compositionally!
