Pre dawn Rocks
by Rob Graham
I took this Tuesday morning at Monument Rocks NNL, western Kansas. The night before, the clouds were heavy, and stayed thick most of the night. I awoke around 6 am to clear skies. I started taking photos and around 0645, just as light was starting to appear to the east, I captured this image. There was just enough pre dawn light to help add color and separate the rock formation known as "Camel Rock" from the sky. The distant towns are small, but I still toned down the light pollution from them. 7D, ISO 1600, f/3.5, 20 sec, 10mm, partial crop after fixing some of the distortion.

But unlike the obelisk, we manifest something very special; consciousness. And that is the ultimate mystery; how it is that consciousness has arisen from this process... out of nothing. But more than that, what is consciousness in the first instance? And therein, I think, lies a fundamental aspect of the question or the corollary question; what is photography?
