A Very cold day @ -30 (but sunny ) where I was rewarded with a stunning opportunity to capture these females following the Herd Leader. As they were departing a startling sound caused them All to look intensely for a very small time in that direction.

the earliest confirmed record of Elk in Ontario, Canada was dated from over 3000 years ago. Due to continuing settlement pressures and Unregulated hunting, Elk were eventually Extirpated in Ontario.
An Elk restoration was carried out in 2001 and released Elk from Elk Island National Park in Alberta.

My First Digital Camera.

Fuji S2 Pro/ 1/500 Speed/ @ f5.3/ !S) 200/ @ 210mm.

Your Constructive comments Greatl appreciated.

That's a pretty nice lineup, Bill. I'm curious how close you were when you shot this. The depth of field is pretty good given their placement, so I was a little surprised to see f/5.3. I'm assuming this was cropped down a bit (if so, it seems a bit tight on the left side)?

 This is so cool Bill! Nothing to add to improve this other than that a horizontal (with more empty space on the right) would work even better I think. :toast:

Hello Max

it was ahile ago, but about 75 feet away/ Yes some cropping strengthen the Horizon. & yes some Tight too....

Hello Vincent ... Have tried both aspects & have preferred this Vertical best.

Thank you for your Critiques.

Very nice story accompanying the fine capture :wavey:
I too do not see how it could be f5/3 but it is a sweet shot. :toast:

A great formation of elk you captured Bill  A very strong composition as presented. I like how all their attention seems to be focused on the same thing.

Sweet Photo!!!

A great line-up here, It's a terrific frame. I do wish for more canvas on both left and right sides.

Checked the camera DATA again and f is as posted. 4 of the Five are Sharp but Closest starting to appear Soft. Seems about 4 feet DOF at this distance. Yes, A Tight frame. And I agree could be better with more space L&R.
I was able to grab a few Images at same time & will review them to see if more space .

Great Feedback, Much Appreciated.

Wonderful image. Looks like you focused on #2 in the lineup, and that would actually be close to the hyperfocal point, which is why they're all in focus. Nice work, Bill.

A very nice composition and it's great they're all concentrating on the same spot.
I agree that a little more spce on the left would be nice and also have the near elk sharp like the rest.
This is a very well composed image that is pleasing to the eye.

Goodness, how did you get this dof using f5.3? Anyway, a sensational shot of this tight group at an unusual angle: perhaps all factors in helping the dog. Love it. Congratulations on the Pick.

Hello Catherine

intersting that I Focused on the Very Centre Elk & you will notice the Closest Elk is quite Soft. The Male at other End is just In-Focus. An excellent 1/3 before - 2/3after centre of Focus!
