Whistling Heron

Here's another heron from our Argentina trip of a couple years ago. The Whistling Heron makes a loud noise that I would describe more as a deep honking than a whistle. This is one instance where not including the virtual legs works better because there is a mass of vegetation there and it would just reduce the impact of the subject. 80% of the original.

Nice light and a great pose, Nate. I think I'd be tempted to take a bit off the right.

Sweet shot, Nate. I assume this is a close relative of the capped heron, given the blue facial markings and the long head feathers. Very nicely done here. The composition and crop work for me.

Wow, very cool heron species. Love the calling pose and the long head plumes. Comp works fine for me.

Great facial colours, nice pose. Composition works fine. Given the bird's height there is inevitably going to be some empty space on one side or other but in this case it serves to highlight the birds not detract from it.

I agree, no 'virtual legs' required for this 'honker'
Very nice! :wavey:

Very nice composition and setting to this. I like the open beak and the blue around the eye. Nice job in getting this shot Nate.

Hello Nate

Not Familiar with this Bird, but look like an interesting Guy! The Larger Version, is a MUST SEE. Great Sharpness & Eye Expression with the Natural Catch Light! Head Feathers flying give a feeling of Action, and open mouth while calling out makes a Compelling Image.

PS.... Congrats on your Winning Image in the International Chasing the Light recent Competition !!
