Drought Relief . . .
Sounds good to those who need it, not so good to those getting flooded to provide it! The ways of nature seem to get more and more bazaar and with today’s instant news environment, we hear about it as fast as it happens.
This is how a cypress swamp in south Georgia that feeds, in part, the Florida Aquifer looked in early 2012, a few weeks ago I was angle deep in water at this same spot. The cost of these dramatic water table changes that have been occurring over the past decade has caused many people, many hardships but none so much as being swallowed by a sink hole while safely sleeping in your own bed. Condolences to all in Brandon, Florida involved with this tragedy.
Camera hand held, full frame.

This is quite an artistic and dramatic picture, Mike. I like the way the red bush (?) is placed near the bottom toward the right to offset the other colors. Thanks for sharing the story as well.

I love the form and colors in this image; the verticals formed by the cypress stems and leaves; in particular the excellent dynamic range on the one on the right against the dark tree background-that would be deserving of a close up, and the brilliant reds over in the right hand corner. Then there is the diagonal that is formed by the light and shadow going from upper right to lower left.

A few "nits" as they say, first, in terms of the image itself, I have the feeling, right or wrong, that there is a 1 or 2 degree counterclockwise tilt of the horizon. This could be an optical illusion generated by the angle of the tree trunk on the right in combination with how the tree horizon line rises in the right. However, I think that the plumb line of the hanging stems of the cyprus also tend to confirm this; are they perfectly vertical? To my eye, the are rotated a degree or two.

So I'd suggest experimenting with maybe 1 or 2 degrees of clockwise rotation just to see if you feel any improvement.

Secondly, I would prefer a more muted artist signiture. The brilliant red of the bushes in the lower right attract the eye there right away, and then immediately to your bright yellow signiture. My personal preference would be to make that signature much more subtle.

Lovely image and interesting narrative insights you provide.

Thanks John and Nancy for the comments.
Good call John on the signature, it is quite distracting once you pointed that out, is this better?
As far as rotation . . . bite your tongue,
