White-throated Sparrow

So I tested the D800 today to see how it would hold up in low light and also deep cropping. This White-throated Sparrow in our late early spring snow storm worked prefect as a test. Ive run test on the files shot in perfect light and its blown me away in both sharpness and contrast. There is a little noise in the files and more then I expected to have with this size file and the camera overall is slow for wildlife and news which is what I do. The price is right but the D4 seems to winning out for me. I’m still on the fence on buying one......more thinking to do.

Model: NIKON D800
Firmware: Adobe Photoshop CS5.1 Macintosh
Lens (mm): 500
ISO: 800
Aperture: 4
Cropped 50%

Good capture Douglas, but a little too tight on left :wavey:
Rule of thirds always in the back of my mind when shooting. :jump:

Nice image, well done. I like the wintery atmosphere.
As far as the camera, I own a D700 which is a great camera. Last year I bought a D4 however to deliver me much more speed. So if wildlife and birds is your thing, the choice seems obvious to me...., Cheers, Hans

Not a nikon person, but it sounds like the D4 would be the right choice for wildlife Douglas..
Good low-light shooting :wavey:

The image held up well for a 50% crop and still shows some nice detail on the sparrow.

IQ looks good to me as posted. I'd brighten this up a bit to get rid of the "muddy" feel.

Do wish the sparrow was over a bit more, but a nice pose. I agree it overall looks a bit dark. Thanks for sharing.

Both are great cameras, Douglas. I imagine you would be pleased with whichever. You might check with Brad Hill, who has worked quite a bit with both. As for the image, I agree with the comments thus far, especially Rich's, viz the brightness.
