Spring Beauty

This is a beautiful little flower that grows in southern Michigan in wooded areas. I captured these two flowers with my Nikon D-80 with a Nikon 105 mm Macro lens. ISO 400, f/8, 1/250 sec. Camera was mounted on a tripod and I used a cable release.

I would really appreciate any comments or critiques. Thanks

Tom, this is where the 105 really shines! If you can sharpen up the petals and clone out or crop the green leaf and partial flower in the URHC, this would be a sweet simple and strong photo. :toast:

Dittos to Phil suggestion.
A reduced crop with two flowers only and green cropped out would improve this greatly. Nice capture and I suggest you research rules of thirds to further your compositions. :toast:
Keep on Shooting :jump:

This is a nice look at Spring Beauty. They're a favorite early spring flower of mine and it's fun to search a patch to find the ones with stronger pink in their veins. The crop is a definite improvement.

Thomas,
New post is much, much better. Composition is a skill that comes from refinement and experience.
I have to suggest brushing up on rules of thirds for everyone..

Hi Thomas :wavey i like this Spring Beauty!: This composition certainly improves with the crop. i do this when a subject is in the way, or when i can not snip it out.

Tom:

The re-crop is certainly stronger than the original. The left bloom looks a little cramp compared with the right bloom. The norm is to give a little more room in the direction where the flower is facing (a little like animal shots) so I would probably move the crop a little to the left (ie more room on the left than the right).
