Took this back in 2009 wayout in the backwoods of Virginia. Found this deer skull and I placed it on a dead tree that resembled a hand. To me it was like the forest was offering both back to the earth from where them came!! C&C welcome

Canon 40D, ef100-400@100mm, 1/60th, f/4.5, iso320, partial metering, fill flash, handheld. Converted to B&W and cropped for composition in CS6.

The black and white conversion was an excellent choice considering the subject matter. I think the stump and skull could use a little more sharpening. :toast:

Some nice ideas here. The light balance is good. Tilting the camera can make a more dynamic image sometimes. This seems kind of straight on and centered. I guess Eward Weston would have done it this way, though. The skull and branch would make good props for Halloween.

Very creative scene setting, David! The stump is a great way to display this skull. The stump does look like a hand but it also could be seen as the neck of the animal. The B&W works well with this. . .gives it a more spooky feel.

I like the contrast between the skull and the stump and how well both are set apart from the oof background.
