These horseshoe crabs are often found washed up on the beach along the New Jersey shore. This photo was taken many years ago with my old Kodak Easyshare point and shoot.

Nice textures and shadows. The whites are a bit hot; probably inescapable back when Easyshare was state of the art.

Jim, this was taken around mid day which meant the light was quite bright and the white sand made it even more so.

I really like the graphic nature of this image. The high contrast only adds to the effect. The small furrow in the sand behind the tail gives the impression the crab was just moving, definitely a sci-fi feel to this stunning photo. Well done Carolyn! :toast:

I would not have expected to see a bright colorful image portraying death. Kudos for thinking 'outside the box'. I do not find the hot highlights objectionable.

I like this for the different perspective it offers and the graphic nature of the image. Nice contrast with the texture of the sand and THe smooth shape and finish of the shell as well. This works on a lot of levels, nice work!

This kind of reminds me of the movie, Naked Lunch. Looks like this guy was made from a plastic plate and some slinkies. To me, this one looks more artistic than dead. Nice change of pace.

I grew up on Long Island and learned to regard horseshoe crabs, which I saw over the years in the hundreds if not more, as very ancient, venerable creatures. You've succeeded magnificantly in making such an artistic image out of what's for some of us a very common sight. The texture and detail are amazing. Sure, it's very bright, but on an overcast day you wouldn't have caught that magnificent shadow.
