Emergence

Shot this the other night as we got some wild winter weather way down in the low deserts. Snow all across the state and plenty of it. While this doesn't show a whole lot of snow, it was the fog that kept me out there shooting. The infamous flatiron (the peak poking through the fog) was covered in snow from about halfway up the trail to the top. It would have been cool to get to the top and shoot the scenes from up there, but it was just so majestic looking from below. I decided to convert this one to black and white as there really was no color to begin with. As always, comments and critiques appreciated.

Superstition mountains, Arizona.

This is excellent, Peter. The mood created by the fog is amazing. I like the element of mystery as well due to the way that the fog envelopes the peaks.

I love the mood, conversion and composition here.
I would perhaps just dodge the highlights a bit more for "punchier" whites?

I like the mood and agree that a better tonal range would be achieved with a little work on blacks and whites in levels. :toast:

I like it, it reminds me of Ansel's work.
I suggest a lil bit of contrast

Nice. Mysterious looking, and the B&W treatment works well for me. Good depth to it; it keeps you looking "in" the image.

An intriguing composition to me, Peter. I especially appreciate the repetition of shapes and the separation by the fog. Your b&w conversion works well in my opinion as is.

This was my favorite from your recent series. Lots to like in this almost classic b&w scene. The way the fog weaves in and out and among the monoliths is striking. Morkel has a good point re: whites.
You have plenty of room for adjustment looking at the histogram. It does make a good improvement, IMO.

great moody shot, peter! i like how you composed the shot and how the bright fog/clouds contrast with the dark mountains. speaking of contrast: i agree with morkel about the punchier highlights.

This is nice, Peter. Just enough texture left in the fog to keep it interesting.
