Red Crossbill

While I was at Bosque del Apache, I took a morning to run up to Sandia Crest in search of Rosy Finches (which I didn't find). At the 10K trail head (at 10,000 feet elevation), I did find a flock of Red Crossbills foraging in the trees. I couldn't get very close, as they stayed fairly high, so this is a pretty large crop, but it's my first Crossbill, so I'll take it.

1DIV, 500mm f4 ISL + 1.4TC, Black Widow on RRS legs, f7.1, 1/250, iso 400, Av mode with no compensation. Normal processing in CS5. Cropped to 2.15MP or 13% of the original. Taken January 21st at 9:48 am.

Your comments and criticisms are always appreciated.

Thanks for looking,

Pretty good image considering you cropped down to 13% of original as the larger image still has nice detail, way to go.

Very crisp all around. The perch is very nice and the eye capture is very good. Well done.

The 3 larger cones help balance the comp. Bird is nicely detailed. I like this! Sharon

Wonderful image Dennis-the detail held out well-love the comp. We've seen quite a few of these guys this year in New England-great looking bird-make a great holiday card IMO.
