A Letter from Autumn

Hey Everyone,

This one is fresh off the sensor about a week ago when we still had some sub-zero temps. I have been feeling a little uninspired and exploring the ice brought me back, not only in mind, but in spirit as well. I will state that is one of my favorite images that I've shot in awhile. Why? The story behind images are what move me. It was how I was feeling when exploring the icy realms of a cold and desolate winter. I feel a connection to scenes that intertwine with my emotions, both high and low.

I edited this image rather quickly but then stalled because a title escaped me. Image names are very important to me and I will often not consider an image complete until its titled. The name speaks of my experience and the story nature is telling me. This image quickly speaks of dark and light and the fragile touches scattered throughout. I see a story from the fallen autumn leaves trapped in the ice. The calligraphic lines marking the letter to send off to the winter season. I'm not sure of the content of the letter but to me it radiates, hope.

Thanks again for your time and comments

I like the image overall. My only suggestion would be to pull back on the upper & lower vignetting quite a bit.

I love photographing fallen leaves in ice and love what you have here. I've also had trouble naming them. Sometimes I feel the image is looking into the past and other times when the leaves are quite prominent, it looks like a memory or dream.

I think this kind of image tells a compelling story. This is beautiful, and elegantly captured. NICE!

I enjoyed reading the story behind this image. There are a lot of interesting elements in this from the sweeping curves of the "calligraphy" to the fallen leaves and finally the hoar frost. You have a great eye for these kind of scenes and this is no exception. :toast:

Such a delicate image with tons of detail in the large version Anthony. Amazing how the all thepieces of the comp fit so well together. I could explore the curves and ins/outs of the shapes for a long time. Nicely done. :toast:

This is great, Anthony--love all the hieroglyphics here. Maybe tone down that one bright spot near the leaf just a little bit. Otherwise looks fantastic. I went out today in search of some ice to shoot but I felt totally uninspired for some reason. Then I slipped on an iceflow that was covered with snow--I nearly went off a cliff but fortunately I grabbed a tree just in time. Figured that was a good point to call it a day.

Swirls and shattered crystals. The curves and jagged shards are great...but, the topper is the encased leaf. A keeper!

Anthony, you show me an exceptional beauty here. The gently curved lines together with the clear cut cristals make for a stunning interplay to my eye.

Thanks for your feedback on this one.
Dan- I have really been enjoying your ice images as well and especially over on facebook
Stan- Geesh, well Im glad your ok. Well don't give up, you will find something. The white crystal probably went a touch hot for the web size but is stable and within range in my master file. Tk's masks are very pertinent in the fine tuning.

Very nice, lines form abstract patterns inside patterns all around fall leaves. Story in itself. I really enjoyed all of the careful arrangements in the larger version (which is a must).

This is absolutely beautiful, Anthony, the level of detail is stunning. Nice story to go along with it as well. I feel the same way about the titles of my images, and often find myself revisiting an image many times before I choose a name for it. :toast:

Wow! the kaleidoscope patterns between the curvatures in the lower portion wouldn't let me look at the subtleness of the leaves in the ice
