My Weird Dream

Yeah, just another Dream Lake ice abstract...well, ok, it's my first one since 2011...but there will be more coming. Morris started it off strong and I am not sure this one works into the whole theme, but it's one of my favorite from my trip. Definitely a "How in the heck does this happen" kind of image.

My original processing had too much yellow/cyan and after seeing Morris' rendition of the blues in the ice, I decided that was the way to go. Always lookin for improvements and ideas. These are abstracts, so I figure they can be tweaked however.

Canon 5D2, 90mm TS-E. 2-3 images stitched

Wonderful work for me, Jimmy, with a lot of shapes and textures to explore.

Just an excellent comp, Jimmy! I love how you composed this so everything points to the swirling area on the lr power third. The bits of snow sprinkled all around add a lot to this as well. Fantastic complex abstract! :toast:

The blues work very well here, adding beauty and elegance to the interesting image

Fabulous ice image Jimmy. Color/sat looks good to me and very fitting for the scene and conditions. No biggie, but I could do without the white blob, but that's minor; it does add context and interest to this somewhat "fractured" winter scene. Lots to explore, I really like it.

This is way too funny. I shot ther exact same piece of ice last week! I even used my tilt shift and stitched! I shot different composition and I'll be interested in what others think too. Your comp makes this abstract look like a crazy alien or something funky like that. Or how about John Carpenters The Thing? I like the crisp clean white cracks on the super cool blue ice. Awesome shot Jim!

Really nice work, Jimmy. I especially like the juxtaposition of the sharp, jagged lines with the smooth contours.

I think in the absence of many other shots it would be great, but ive just seen too many, and as you know they really have to have something different to stand out--im just not sure this rises to that level. Hard to explain verbally, but it just seems too disjointed to me, the shapes and lines dont mesh for me. I love the top third though

I totally get what you're saying, Stan. Been there, done that and this is just a little too weird/doesn't fit. I went for some really odd stuff this trip up, so maybe I am the weird one. Haha. Ok, I do like your idea of the top third, as I moved in closer for some closeups of that area in some other captures. Maybe I will look at those next. Stay tuned.

I like this a lot...there is a ton of dimension to it. I disagree that it is just another ice abstract...there is such a wide variation of textures and shades that it really holds a lot of interest. It's actually pretty bizarre how three dimensional it looks!

I see someone jumping for joy (or maybe from cold feet) in the darker areas in the middle. I like how cold the blue/white color combo feels and the bright white crack and bits of snow (larger bubbles?) adds to that. Well seen!

A mixed bag of shapes and textures - I much prefer your Ice Dreams to this one, but others might agree. Did you manage any tight shots of the ice and sunrise reflection in the Colorado Dream'n comp? That would appear to be over the top.
