Again a capture from my trip to Danube Floodplains a couple of weeks ago. A slight haze blurred the scene, thereby adding some interesting kind of subtlety to me.

Hi Peter, always enjoy viewing your { what I like to call portraits of nature }, and this is no exception. They always have a natural earthy look, just what I would expect to see. Really love the subtle color in the BG, along with the dark trunks and fine coating of snow. Beautifully seen and presented.

Hi Peter, This is really nice! John's thoughts are exactly what mine are looking at this. He said them better than I could...thanks John! This looks just like some of the scenes I was photographing in Upperr MI. and I really appreciate what you did here. Love the look and feel!

Peter, I've just returned to your image after viewing Jose's image and your image gives one such a completely different feeling. One of peace, and the calm of silent resting which is just as powerful in its own way. I really like the subtle coloring in the back ground. Wonderful work. !!!!!! Chet

Peter, There is a pleasing graphic quality to the horizontal layers in this scene. The gentle curves of the golden Phragmites stands out well against the darkness of the willows, but not so much as to be startling. I agree with John. He calls scenes like this without imposing forms, great contrasts or bright colors "Portraits of Nature" and I call them "Gentle Spectacles," but I think we all appreciate them for similar reasons -- the restful and peaceful mood they convey. This adds a stronger graphic appeal with the low-contrast, but bold horizontal stripes, but it still retains the peaceful mood. As a result, it is eye-catching from a distance, as well as relaxing to examine closely.

Interesting that this is on the Danube in Austria; it is so similar to places in Alaska. I like these same types of scenes. To me this comes across as just a bit busy, but I like it anyway, especially where you can see the ice down at the base of the grasses. I wonder if something with even a softer feel would still have this nature-scene feel to it and not feel quite so busy. I haven't see the others, I'll check them out.

I like the contrast the snow gives to the trees. Nice quiet scene.
