Still in Death Valley. I love this place! Thought I'd try to share this one although I haven't quite got the hang of doing this stuff on the road. Hope you'll find it enjoyable anyway. Please let me know how what I could do to improve it, especially the processing part. As always, thanks for looking

I think your composition is well done, with lots of interesting layers and diagonal lines. The lighting shows promise as well, however, the processing is off. Some of the yellows are blown out, and there seems to be an overall lack of detail, especially in the more distant layers. It's hard to tell if that's a problem with the processing, or if those layers are out of focus (hopefully it's the former). I would definitely take some time to try and figure out that processing and make all the layers look nice and crisp.

Thanks, Floris. That's exactly the feed back I'm looking for. I've been trying to process on my laptop but it's not calibrated at all and I never know if I'm even coming close to what I want. Apparently not in this case, but I'll rework it when I get home on my own computer. Thanks for letting me know

Very nice comp Nancy, and I cant add any more than Floris already stated, this definitely has a lot going for it, I'm sure you will figure it out on your calibrated computer, sounds like your really enjoying your self, pretty place to visit, take a lot of shots.

Nancy Lea,

Sounds like you're having a good trip so far. This is an excellent and graphic view of the canyon and the light. In general the color/sat looks good. But I'll have to agree with most all of Floris' points, especially the blown yellows and the softness, which looks more like a depth of field issue, probably focusing on the near wall with a fairly wide aperture?

The only thing I would add would be a crop suggestion. While I like the graphic nature, layers and opposing diagonals, I think this would be even more graphic and nearly abstract if you cut the bottom part which has the bottom of the canyon. I think cropping just above that will make a stronger image.

Looking forward to more from your trip.

Hi Nancy, I too like your composition and think the small crop Lon suggested will make it even better. Floris has made some good suggestions here that I think will help.
It does sound like you are having a good time in Death Valley.

I like the view up the canyon with the brightly lit wall in the background. There's very nice front-to-back eye movement here. I agree completely with Floris about the bright yellows in the distance. How fun to be exploring the west.

I like the comp and the layers of light in the scene. Not exactly sure what's going on with the background oranges and yellows. They seem OOF compared to the blues and grays in the foreground, but also somewhat sharpened.
