Hand-tooled leather?

I think this bug may be a "false potato beetle". I like this "cold shoulder" POV because it showcases the wonderful designs on the back of this bug. To me, it has the look of fine hand-tooled leather! I found him resting on the buds of a Hosta flower.

Canon Rebel T1i. 180mm macro lens. F/13 for 1/3 sec. ISO 100. Tripod mounted, on-camera flash plus natural lighting.

I find the texture also fascinating and can certainly see the look of leather. A neat bug image!

Eirini, as I recall, he was about 1/2" long.

Great look at the beetle's dazzling back, Carolyn. To me, it looks like it was hand-painted with glossy paint.and then polished. In fact, if you cover up the head, it looks like a hand-painted egg sitting in a stand or easel. Nice bg to go with the striking subject.

the focus on the back creates enough detail that I agree it looks like leather. I like the right hand placement of the bug, with the extending petal to the left, it feels balanced; the soft colors are pleasing and don't detract from the bug.

An outstanding piece of work Carolyn, the colors on the beetle, and the palette of the entire frame work very well..

Very nice look at those 'wing covers' and I agree, it has the look of 'fine hand-tooled leather'.
Like those BG colors that compliment too..
Well done Carolyn :wavey:
