I liked the split tree at the top of this hike. I tried to give this a painterly effect...but cannot tell if it is too dark or just right...comments welcome.

The image looks fine overall except for what must be the "painterly mood" you applied. To my eyes, it just looks blurry. I want to reach for the focus knob on my monitor, but I don't have one! I'm sure there's more details in the dark greens, but that's just a matter of taste. I don't mind it. The "look" reminds me of Nik's Glamour Glow, which softens to degrees, but also darkens shadows quite a bit.

Yes, this effect does blur a bit. Oh well, back to the drawing board.

Here's the original.....I guess what I wanted was a painting seen from across the room. Here it is with no "glow".
Would the first post "fly" in photo art or would it still just be considered blurry?

Nice. Sort of abstract and real at the same time. The balance of light is quite nice. Much prefer the blur effect on the original post.

I prefer the blur effect over the original, but overall the composition looks a bit random - it's hard for me to determine where you want me to look. My eye is obviously drawn to the bright cloud at the top, but with no other distinct shapes to draw my eye to, I'm wandering through the frame, searching. If you crop the bottom half off, the shot gets more focus imho. Hope that makes sense.
