Bejeweled Magnolia

After a small snow storm we had a day with sunshine bright enough to melt the snow on our magnolia tree but temperatures cold enough to freeze the water drops before they fell. Those conditions created this jewel of an ice pendent at the tip of a leaf. By carefully choosing my camera angle with respect to the sun, I could get both a sunburst and some refractory colors in this little ice jewel. You can see an icicle under the same conditions here. (5D3, 100 mm macro L, 1/50s, f/8, iso 400, tripod) Cropped to 70% ff.

Nice catch...The tiny sunburst is special as well as the angles of the crystal itself.
As I was scrolling down, most of the leaf got cut off. I found, that I liked this better. What about a radical crop? Say, crop just below the horiz part of the leaf...leaving only the vertical tip of the leaf...........

Nice picture. The ice jewel is really pretty. I like the composition. The attention to the little things do make great shots.

Well planned and executed. It is unique and challenging to see a photo that is both beautiful and cerebral.

The water drop looks like a faceted jewel. Remarkable shot.

Mark,

A neat shot. The jeweled water droplet is beautiful. I especially like the sunburst of light on the droplet.

Well done.

Well done again, Mark. Certainly looks like a diamond pendant, and the bit of sunstar is a nice touch.

Very nice Mark, great eye for the shot as they say.
I especially like the multifaceted look of this "ice pendent".
Well done:wavey:

Wow, this is really cool! There are also several other crops that could also be neat...I really like Lucy's idea for example.
