I couldn't resist this Great Blue Heron in beautiful sunrise lighting. Nothing like the marsh on fire like this to make my day, and the early morning rise and 2 hour drive to Bombay Hook totally worth it!

50D, 500mm w/1.4, Iso 400, 1/200, F5.6 LARGER version also posted. And THANK YOU for looking/commenting/critiquing! Sharon

Very Cool Capture Sharon,
The morning light in the reeds is magical, along with the detail in the Heron and the reflections in the water all combine to make this image well worth your efforts. Well Done . . .

I like the golden light and the surrounding habitat. The light is still a bit bright as you can see the shadow on the bill, and maybe the bird could be a tad sharper. I've been shooting a lot without the 1.4 tc lately and I notice an increase in sharpness. Not sure if would work for you. Still a keeper in my book. :toast:

love that light, Sharon, definitely worth the early start (sunrise is a lot easier this time of year, isn't it? ) setting and comp are both really nice too. I think Charlie's right that the bird is just a little bright and could take a little more sharpening. really a nice looking shot.

Beautiful! I like how the heron is partly behind the grass. I love the sunset colors, and I think you did a really great job!
