Redbellied Woodpecker
by Jerry Marella
Male Redbellied Woodpecker that was clinging thight to a stump because a hawk was perched somewhere nearby. The woodpeckers were active until the hawk showed up. Then they all found a spot and stayed still until the hawk moved on.
I'm not sure how I feel about the browned out backgrounds. They're OK, but I'd prefer something brighter. With no snow on the ground I don't see that happening anytime soon.
Also, you may notice OOF areas at the top and bottom. I was using a 25mm tube. I think the OOF areas are because of distortion from the tube. The camera was angled up a little so the DOF at the top and bottom may have fallen off. This is something new to me now that I have a full frame digital. With a 1.3 crop factor I never noticed it. I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts on the cause if it's not the tube.

2 commentsThe dark BG doesn't bother me a bit - as Howard said, it compliments the colours of the woodpecker and makes the reds stand out.
