Folks,

This one was too fast for me, from the moment I spotted, and it would have spotted me even before. I was keen on backlit. I know that the Mantis face is not bright, less detail etc ...What do you feel about this ...would appreciate c&c

He was looking right at you! This seem sharp to me...perhaps a slight dodge on his face would help a little but I still think it turned out well. I like how the light shines through parts of his body & the leaf!

The fact that the face is not very bright, is not objectionable to me; however, I really need to see that eye. I also feel that much detail is hidden in both the shadow and highlight areas. Some dodging (head, eye and parts of the body) might go a long way to improving the image and will probably bring out that detail. I might also suggest burning a bit of the forelegs. That, too, could bring out much more detail.

Well done, Balan. Looks good to me. I think having the head/eye in shadow is about the only negative. You could also burn some of the brighter areas in the bg, like in the LR 1/4. I like the backlighting, especially the backlit leaf, and the soft but colorful bg is very nice overall.

I agree with the other comments. The back lit view is very nice and the details in the leaf are great. Dodging the face and some burning in on the legs and antennae should help nicely.

I've never been able to capture a mantis with his (or her?) tail turned up? So koodos to you!!! It would be nice to see the eye clearer, but I get the feeling he was turning away from you. I like it...can't always get what you want, but you get what you need. I think you got what you needed
