The Arrival of the King

Or so it seemed. I make a habit of turning around periodically to see if anything is happening that I'm not aware of. I spied this guy slowly moving in and could see he was quite well endowed. Interestingly, too, when he finally did arrive in the area where all the other deer were hanging out, the tenor of the bucks seemed to change. Which led me to hypothesize that he was of some import to the others. Nothing specific but just a feeling I had. Not a great image but I think it still shows the animal fairly well. If I could redo it, I would add more room at the top, tighten up the right, and get rid of the tree trunk coming up behing his head and rack. My only changes to the photo were to raise the color temp a bit and sharpen for the web. I would appreciate any comments and critiques to help me improve.

Peter, you have touched on the items which would improve this image. I do agree with the need for more room on the top. I like the position of the bucks head, he seems to be showing the others who is top deer. Thanks for sharing.

That's a good habit Peter, not only to recognise opportunities, but also lurking potential dangers! Your self-critique is spot-on and for the exact same reasons the image does not work very well for me. It seems to me that a few more steps of the animal to the right (to get away from that tree) would have placed him in a much better position for an image.
