Glory Sky

Gallery: Man & NaturePosted January 10, 201365 views3 comments
I took this, this past fall in West Virginia while driving along a road. I was in the passenger seat taking random shots. This shot is straight out of the camera, raw saved as jpeg.

The only thing I did was crop off about 1/5th of the bottom to remove a fence that was blurred and distracting. I keep coming back to this shot! Is there anything I can do to enhance it any? I love it the way it is, but would like some imput, C&C as always!

Canon 5D MKII, ef17-40L @ 17mm, 1/500sec, f/9, iso200, AP, eval metering, handheld while moving down the road...

Very nice for a random shot David, and I like it the way it's presented, really nice comp and color. Well done. PS, you caught some Man & Nature, bottom right, they will probably move you.

Hi David,

Thanks for remembering the Man & Nature Gallery, I'll go ahead and move it after posting my comment here. My apologies for not getting to this earlier.

This works really well as a "big sky" kinda image - and appropriate title btw. This worked well also in terms of being able to avoid some nasty lens flares - must be a pretty good lens!

The only suggestion I have is that the landscape seems slightly underexposed; especially the mountains and treeline as you move towards the right. What usually happens with metering is that the brightness of the sun and sky causes the exposure to compensate for that brightness usually making the less-bright areas go dark. This isn't too bad here and fortunately the image is all about the sky, so in the end it works pretty well.

Thanks,
Lon
