This explosive sunset came only two days after the sunset I posted a bit earlier. I headed out to the same area and found a different comp that showcased some amazing little reeds, that had interesting curves. That combined with the freezing lake provided for a fun evening to shoot.

The camera was about 4"-6" over the ice, so this is a relatively small area (the foreground). If I remember correctly, I took around four images for DOF and DR. Each image edited in RAW and processed in CS5.

Canon 60d 10-22mm @ 10mm
ISO 100 --- f/13 --- Multiple Exposures --- Tripod --- no filters

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts! View Large!

Very striking image. I just feel like I am being sucked into the center of the image. The light is beautiful and the sky is powerful.

Truly amazing image. The color is fantastic and all segments work together as they should. I really love the foreground reeds. Chet

Nicely done. I really like the dark area at the bottom. The reeds there make a very nice pattern.

Great drama here, Nathan. It looks like the scene was fairly devoid of obvious compositional elements, and you still made a really compelling image out of it. The dark processing and the light are spot-on. Love it.

Very nice. The foreground grass works well with the dramatic sky.

Wow. Perfectly exposed, fantastic drama. Huge DOF. Very clean image and one I would be proud to add to my portfolio.

Crazy lighting, love it! The opposing bends in the clouds and reeds are com. elements that work for me. A slightly brighter FG water area might bring out a little more of the details in the water in that section. The dark mood is perfect for that time of day.

Cool! The light in the fg is just tremendous--i almost like the bottom half better by itself! But the sky is nice too...

I appreciate the comments, everyone!

Harry--- If I remember correctly I didn't brighten up the foreground because it kind of detracted from the sky, and as much as I can remember about the actual scene, I believe it was fairly dark already. Thanks for pointing that out---I'll take another look at that. :wavey:
