Female Redbellied WP
by Jerry Marella
I know I'm a little tight on the tail on this girl, but the woodpeckers were really jumpy. Seems that the Redbellied and Hairy don't like to be too near each other and when each came in the other would spook. It was all I could do to try and guess where the next stop would be and crack off a couple of frames before they'd jump off to another location on the stump.
This is near a chunk of beef fat so I knew they'd come back. I just had to be patient, wait for a while, and when either would return it would be 60 sec of mayhem.
The background is snow and woods way off in the distance.

Excellent pose and exposure and terrific detail. Well worth spending time on.
Really fine detail throughout.
Right side cramping already mentioned.
A fine image!
