Bob Miller and I took off on the apache trail in hopes to find something unique and possibly never before photographed locations. After driving around we finally found a spot a couple hundred yards off a side dirt road and went to scout it out. From the road it looked really neat with all these rock outcroppings and spires, but after wandering around it made me feel uninspired. It took a little more scouting to find this comp which we both settled on for this general area and hopefully we managed some unique shots. There were tons of small arches around this spot, but many difficult to get decent comp and the stars.

Reminds of that movie, "The Day the Earth Stood Still". Remember that? I loved Gort in that.

One of those, "makes you feel small" images. I could see trying to balance out the light on the rocks on the left to match the other two main outcroppings a little more, but still a very nice night sky shot.

Nicely conceived and executed, Peter. To me the textures in the starry sky and light painted arches seem to compliment one another. Nice work!

Nice job Peter. Might be a tad bit too saturated in the blue night sky but just my opinion for what little it's worth. Not to hijack your thread but thought I'd post this one of you to show the size of the pinnacles.

Light painting is a tough thing to pull off. The light here is too uneven. The sky looks like a daytime sky that has stars in it...a bit odd, Peter  Keep at it, man

Thanks for the feedback. I had a few frames with the light a little more even that I found after processing this one. Stan, this was only taken about an hour and 20 minutes after sunset, plus with ISO 5000 it was letting in a ton of light. I'm more of a blend in twilight shot for a natural appearance, but I thought I'd give it a shot.

I like the arrangement of the cliffs in the frame. The left spire does seems a bit bright compared to the others. I'm pulling my feet from the mud and heading west for a week or so in February and look forward to seeing some clear starry nights skies.
