From one of my favorite places. While I missed the peak of fall tree color, the colors were still very much in evidence. I always chuckle in Yellowstone when working landscapes as so many people stop and ask what I am looking at. "Just the land and light." Invariably they drive off looking disappointed.
Canon 5D MK II, ISO 400 @ f/11, EF 24-105 f/4.

Brad, Beautiful colors in this wonderful scene. The dark sky works so well with the golden color of the foreground grass and in contrast with the trees. This has a very nice feel...

Brad: One of my favorite places on the planet as well. We were in this exact area in the fall of 2011 and I loved the understated landscapes. Well seen and captured. >=))>

I really like the leafless aspens against that dark sky, perfect. :toast: Ron

Really like those leaf-barren aspens set against that dark, ominous sky, with that touch of delicate light on the land. Seems as though the land is just waiting for that first snowfall.

The light and repeating elements work very nicely. You do have a good eye to see this and develop it out so well.

Gosh do I know the feeling and it's never changed after photographing the landscape of Yellowstone for so many years. I really like the nice stormy light to add some drama to the image. Also nice warm colors of the grass contrast well. Great shot from this viewpoint Brad.

This evokes a lot of emotion and drama. It has a rather ominous feel to it which i like a lot. Very nicely done.

Beautiful light and color. The dark dramatic sky is a nice contrast to the golden and warm foreground color. Well done

My impression:
Good comp, contrast, color, dof.
The differential and complimentary gold / blue works quite well.
This photo also establishes a mood... at least for me. The easy times are gone and something arises in the distance. The leaning of the trees seems to say we wish we could run away... but I wax poetic... grins.
Very nice.

Brad,

Welcome to NPN and the Landscape Gallery! What a beautiful first post here! I love the color of the grasses and landscape here and the light being picked up in the trees is just beautiful, especially set against the darker, brooding sky.
"Just the land and light."

Good answer, I like it and I'll have to remember that. Without fail, when I'm set up with my camera alongside the road in Yosemite, camera pointed at the trees, the river, whatever - land and light, people stop and take a picture or they just stop to see what you're taking a picture of - oooooh, it must be a grizzly, or a moose! maybe a coyote, or just a deer.... a tree? are you kidding me? what is that guy taking a picture of?

Welcome! We look forward to your images and participation.

The colors here are just beautiful and the arrangement of trees is very pleasing. I often get strange looks from people when shooting close up abstracts on the beach or returning to the car after crawling the mud flats chasing shore birds..
