I have not done much fog photography but the other morning the conditions caught my eye. Took this at the back end of my property. C&C welcome.
Canon 5D MKII, EF 17-40@25mm, F/7.1, iso 100, 1/200sec, AP, Eval Metering. Converted to black and whit.

Cool image, David, but IMO it would be even better without the protruding branches in the upper left corner. Lovely scene.

At times you will find that people find objects coming down from with in the frame to be distracting. In this case it definititely works. I love this image. I also really enjoy the tone of the image with the reflecions and composition. You made a good decision going BW on this image - it really sets the tone.

This has a nice vintage feel to it. Good composition and processing. The branches in question do not bother me that much. In fact, I feel the balance of the image would be skewed without them.

Thanks for the comments, I could not get a different position for this shot, I left the braches in the hopes in would give the image some framing....thanks again..

I think your comp is what's outstanding here. The strong diagonal and the dendritic branches work together nicely to fill the frame with interest.

David,

Wonderfully excellent foggy winter scene. It's always a great mood-maker to have the fog grow thicker as you get deeper in to an image. This works nicely all the way around, including the b&w presentation.

As far as the branches in the UL, but rule is that if you're going to include something, include it and make it on purpose. Clearly to me you've included enough of the tree top and branches that I think they are a beneficial part of the composition. For one thing, they occupy space in what would otherwise be an empty sky.

If anything, I might consider a small crop up from the bottom; say to right above your signature? I like the triangle and the little bits of detail in the snow, just perhaps too big of an area? Not sure though, this does work very nicely as presented.

Thanks again for your comments and advice, will consider the crop (maybe for a different tighter perspective), the problem is I have already sold 3 of these prints, I may have to keep it true as is. Thanks again!!

This image has the feel of b+w film to me. It reminds me of the old days when I was a teenager and would shoot 35mm film and go home and develop it in my basement darkroom. I was not always cognizant of smaller branches and things sticking in the frame and if I couldn't crop them out during the development process they stayed...never really bothered me until I started doing digital and removing, moving, and adding things became so easy and commonplace...I like this a lot and think t works as presented...certainly wouldn't change anything if you already sold a few..Thanks for stimulating some childhood memories!
