The Other Side

A few months back, I posted a photo called "Orange Glow".

I have come back a number of times with less than ideal conditions for the redo I wanted to capture. Here's my latest iteration.

Nikon D800, Nikon 14-24, f/10, ISO 1600, 3 exposures stacked for focus and dynamic range

C&C very much appreciated

This image is much more dramatic then the previous one.

Navin, I think this photo is much more dramatic than the previous one. I really like the golden light and that fg rock is very compelling, leading one into the beautiful image. Then the movement in the water, even a nice eddy add much to the image. I like this image alot. Chet

this is a very compelling image - exceptional colours and detail, and a perfect POV. If possible, i'd like to see bit more detail in that left BG rock - but just SWEET as is.

I like the previous one better. I agree with Sandy, re the large rock on the LHS. This is more saturation than I find believable, although not everyone would agree with me. I would suggest hauling back on the saturation and seeing If the detail can be brought out in the large rock.

Thanks for the feedback so far. I wanted to only leave some mid/hi detail in the far rock, think I'll add strong curve and paint a little. Otherwise, the city lights do create a stark orange cast after sunset. Not super apparent by eye but the camera picks up all the detail. I actually had to desat reds about 30% though curves were mostly normal blend and not lum. I will post raw screenshots for those who are interested.

Happy new year!!!

Low-key images can be hard to pull off. We're naturally drawn to the light, and there's not much here. However, even at this size, this image invites inspections. At first I missed the texture in background, thinking it's all just shadow and silhouette, but have discovered I'm wrong. The ominousness of my first impression was a little distracting, the warm light eventually warmed up my interest as well

Navin,

There is a great and almost gloomy mood and atmosphere to this. Being somewhat dark really accentuates that as does the monochromatic colors. I don't find the color too saturated and the color in the clouds is believable to me, and the light on the rocks inthe fg is a reflection of that. Also, the motion and little swirl in the water is a great added element.

I would agree with the others though about the bg rock. Similar to a comment I just posted on Richard Teller's image, because that rock in the bg occupies so much space, it's really asking to have more detail. I'm not one that wants or needs to see detail everywhere, but some times it's just needed, if anything for balance and weighting of a composition. But, we all have our own ideas and visions of how we want to display our work, so all is good....

Fantastic lighting! As added interest, the swirling water at the base of the fg rocks makes a nice addition to the photo. I really like this one...

Navin, I think this is a wonderful image and I really enjoy the mood you captured here. The light and color are really cool (and so moody) looking. I like this comp too. Very nice!
