Here's another from my visit to Phoenix to shoot with Rich Ditch. This Northern Mockingbird in a mesquite was one of the first birds we saw as we began our afternoon session at Gilbert Water Ranch.

I appreciate your critiques and comments. Please view the larger version if possible.

Crop to 77% of original (13.8 of 18MP)

f/7.1, 1/2000, ISO 400

Canon 7D, 500mm + 1.4x TC, tripod

I was just looking at this yesterday so it was a bit of a shock to see the thumbnail.

Very natural with excellent detail and perfect exposure.

Rich, you should post yours too--I remember Charlie and KC posted the same subject side by side a while back and I thought that was cool to see.

Very nice capture Brian. I'd have cloned out the twig at the right bottom, but it is fine as it is. Thanks for sharing.

A very fine photograph. I would also try cloning out that that branch in the LRC. I have a suggestion which may be only my preference. When there is good light like this, I try to increase the DOF so those few stems in the foreground are in focus rather that OOF. Often it is preferable to blur the foreground, but in this case I would prefer they were in focus. My two cents worth.

Beautifly photo, Brian. Great color, exposure, and setting. I too would probably remove the branch in the LRC. I'd also like to see Rich's photo. Would be nice to see two top shelf images side by side.

Nice species, never seen it. Like the shot, showing some of the habitat as well. Normally against the sky shots are not my favorites for perching birds, but in this case it doesn't bother me at all ! Cheers, Hans

A Beauty Brian! I like the way the mesquite frames the mockingbird.

Very sharp with a great background and headturn, Brian. The clear sky and the two vertical branches showcase the mockingbird very well. I find the one branch in front of the body mildly distracting. Great image, nonetheless.
