Shapes of the sky and sea converge during a gorgeous sunset at Uluwatu, Bali.

Hi everyone,

I FINALLY finished processing my images from my honeymoon in Bali. Life has been pretty hectic since I got back from the trip in mid-October, from moving into our new home, keeping up with the "other job", and creating a stronger commercial photography foothold here in DC.

Here is an image from the trip. I'll post one or two more before I'm done, but I wanted your thoughts of it in comparison to a landscape version.

The composition is quite different - and I feel the vert is stronger overall since it accentuates the circular shape of the cliff and has similar shapes in the sky and water. But it also accentuates the very slight brush, not the strongest FG. The light was a little less saturated at the time too, but I don't think that's a bad thing. I wouldn't have a had the stronger blues that help the shape in the sky.

Please let me know your thoughts overall and how it compares to the other version,
here

Thanks for your C&C.

Navin, I much prefer the horizontal version. It seems much more dramatic to me, I suppose because of the more intense colors and both the cove and waves appear much larger. Probably it could use a little more room on the bottom, but still the horizontal is a clear winner for me. It will be interesting to see what others have to say.

I think you've crafted your image quite eloquently. There is a sense of grace within the borders.

Great shot Navin! I love the colour, composition and water movement! I might try to open up the shadows a bit. I'm also finding the shore on the left a tiny bit crowded for my taste, however it's not a deal breaker at all. Great shot overall!

Really nice colors. I love the water. Think I prefer the vertical. TFS

Thanks for your comments, everyone. Carol - I increased the sat (just slightly) on the master file of the vertical per your comments.

Wayne - there wasnt much interest to the left when I composed, so I decided to short it off. Maybe I should have tried a pano and then decided in post. Thanks for that.

:toast: to all comments. thanks!

Navin, congrats on your marriage! I like both of these, but prefer somewhat the horizontal version because of the extra pop from the yellow clouds in the sky and the added balance of the distant clouds on the right. (I do wish that the foreground extended all the way to the frame edge.) In this version, the mimicked arc from the clouds to the cliff and the breaking surf works very well. Was the lighting that different between shots, or is some of the difference in processing?

hi everyone, thanks for your comments! mark - the light did change (and got a little cooler), but I think it had to do with processing as well. I uploaded an alternate version a few days back that might address your comment?

thanks for your thoughts, and well wishes!

Navin, This is very nice! I looked at the horz version which is very good, but I do like this one even better. That water looks so good and I enjoy the light a lot. A great sky too! I might be tempted to crop a little of the foreground out but not a big deal either way to me. Nice work!
