Having a Chew

Out early the other day to check up on the deer at the local preserve. Clear skies when I first got up but that turned to a pretty good fog by the time I started my walk. I came upon this doe bedded down near the trail and she had the biggest bulging checks which almost made me laugh. Not sure what she was eating but she was putting in quite an effort. It's still Christmas here in California, so I still can wish that everyone will have the most Happy of Holidays whatever your niche is. I thought a nice photo of a peaceful, contented doe just enjoying a good meal would be an appropriate image to convey that feeling. Critiques and comments appreciated and welcomed.

Peter, nice image of the deer, but IMHO it could use so overall brightening. Nice detail in the deer. Thanks for sharing.

I like this Peter, a nice view of this bedded down here. You did well given the very limited light you had to work with. Happy Holidays to you as well. :toast:

She must have been very still to pull of 1/25th the detail looks great. Giving the limited light I think its a good shot. She really does have those cheeks packed full.

Hi Peter,

This one is cleaner and I definitely like how the doe is looking alert but not looking at you. I also like how you've positioned the subject within the frame. I'm in agreement with John's comment about slightly brightening the image up (not by much...just a pinch!) and - it it were mine - I'd consider warming up the image a very small amount as well.

Cheers...thanks for sharing this...and a Merry Christmas to you too!

Thanks for the feedback gentlemen. I'm using a photo of the doe as a vehicle to show the more distended cheeks I referred to and also brightened a bit and warmer a tab to see if that was what folks were looking for. To me she looks a bit comical with those bulging cheeks.
