I haven't posted in months. No excuse. Was shooting on the Texas City Dike a few days ago and found this willing subject just a short distance from my car. I suspected that he would not fly as he just looked too comfortable. The only problem....he was standing behind a rock. Solution...crop it out. Request any and all comments, and thanks in advance.

super details and a really nice setting, Dottie. my suggestion for the comp would be to remove some from the top (almost all of the white band above the bird), and add some in front.

I love the detail shown here Dottie, great lighting too. I agree with Brian in adding more room in front. Half portraits almost always seem a bit awkward compositionally to me but I would hate to lose the plumes by cropping tighter and I'd have to see how objectionable the rock was. :toast:

The repost shows the offending rock and a bit more room has been added to the negative space. Still don't like the rock, but I think the upper part of the crop is better. Life is all about trade offs

Hi Dottie,
On viewing the repost I agree with your decision to crop out the offending rock. I like the added space on the right.

Like the added space on the right in the repost and the bottom crop of the first. Great detail
