Ring-necked Duck

I ventured down out of the snow to Phoenix for an afternoon and a morning shooting with Rich Ditch. He showed me Veterans' Oasis Park, which offered nice opportunities with Ring-necked Duck, a species I haven't had any good shots of.

I appreciate your critiques and comments. Please view the larger version if possible.

Crop to 57% of original (10.3 of 18MP)

f/7.1, 1/640, ISO 500

Canon 7D, 500mm + 1.4x TC, groundpod

Great background -- exposure looks good -- I would try a different crop to bring the duck out of the center just to see what that would look like

It was pleasant shooting with you both days and this is a fine image from VOP. Composition suits my tastes as presented.

Nice post. I love that orange eye and the water color is great. Good pose, low angle, very good image quality and the reflection is very nice. I also like the crop and the positioning of the duck. Well done.

A nice shot of this RND Brian. The exposure is good and I like the water a lot. Nice low angle. I tend to leave less on the bottom and more on the top on these type of images, but this comp works well for me too.

I rarely use the term stunning, but it applies here. Excellent detail on the bird with the beautiful water surface. Really nice.

Love the water - nice pose and detail.
I'd personally crop some off the bottom and allow more on top, so the bird isn't dead-ceenter horizontally.

Outstanding light and angle, Brian. The beautiful orange waters shows up the duck very well. Maybe a touch more DOF to bring the tail also in focus. :toast:
