Aspen Tear

Digging through some fall images from 2011. Figured that since it's pretty much winter for most, I would find a winter like image. This is the only day I saw falling snow all of 2011 (I live in San Diego  )

As I was processing this, I noticed the cool looking Aspen Eye that seems to have a teardrop. Maybe it was sad that the end of the world....nevermind. Or, maybe it knew that my camera would seize up on me only 30 minutes after the shot.

Ok, so honestly, I shot this scene originally to capture the snow and fall colors. Now, I am drawn to the simplicity of the snow, yellow leaves, and the tear.

Canon 5Dm2, 70-300.

The shallow dof works great here to put the emphasis on your subject, and adds a beautiful backdrop for it. Super nice!

Love it. Absolutely love it that out of focus high key background is just a dream. Print it big sit back and admire.

Perfect dof to showcase the 'eye'. Lovely colors throughout. This is simply stunning.

Outstanding Jimmy! Gorgeous! The selective focus and depth of field is just perfect here. Forget the eyes... this is simply gorgeous as is. Of course the "eyes" are quite the look too. ;-)

Thanks for bringing this one out, otherwise we wouldn't get to enjoy it.

Very artistic, Jimmy! I like the high key effect. The teardrop is a real plus.
Good DOF choice.

Ditto to everyone else; beautiful combination of b&w and pastel colors. And as mentioned, your use of DoF is effective.

Amazing find, Jimmy. There is even a catchlight in the "eye". Beyond that, however, this is still a strong image. I like the seasonal contrast as well as the contrast between the gold leaves and the otherwise high key image.

Like you, I also like the simplicity in this. And the balance. BTW, there's another eye down near the bottom... I like this. I think it would look nice printed large.

I think this works very well as presented. I love the white snow against the Aspen bark which is enhanced by the soft BG and your choice of DOF. Very nice.

Jimmy - I can see half a face- nose mouth and side of the face. Sometime its only later we realize this stuff. Love the simplicity. :toast:

Really fine work Jimmy! That eye really is a focal point to me. I like the wind-blown snow on the side of the trunk and the bright tone of the image, great comp as well.

Really interesting concept Jimmy. I wonder how this scene would have looked in a more traditional landscape format, with that center tree more to the right of the frame. The high key treatment definitely makes for a strikingly different look, and of course that eye is very eye catching! Very cool in any case!
