Death Valley in B&W

Hello. Here is a photo from last winter that I just processed with Silver Efex Pro 2, an early Christmas present from my wife. I had played around with the trial version a while back, and found that I was able to bring out more detail and texture with Silver Efex than with Lightroom. However, I find that it easy to overdo this.

Let me know what you think of the B&W processing.

I like: Composition, B&W, Nik Processing, Dunes and clouds texture.

Awesome big-sky landscape and dunescape from DV. This looks like Eureka Dunes? right from the camping area? ;-)

What a fantastic sky - great job with the contrast up there too. No nits what so ever, but if it were mine, I'd play around with bringing up the bright/midtone values in the dunes themselves. Unless of course you want this image to speak only of sky, but I could see bringing up the values of the dunes. the mountain range would work well in contrast to separate the dunes from the sky. Just a thought.

I like this! The big version rocks. It's like the clouds are actually moving, and the detail is great. I do agree with Lon about considering a bit more work with the dunes, especially the distant ones. But still, this is well done!! :toast: I have some work planned in California this spring, and I would love to have a chance to drive over to Death Valley!

Very nice as is, but I think I would try lightening the dunes a little.

Textures and light look perfect, Jon. Really like the emphasis on the sky as it's a very nice element here.
