Tree at sunset

While walking through a local park near sunset I spotted these leaves that were lit by the setting sun.

Canon Rebel T1i. 180mm macro lens. F/3.5 for 1/125 sec. ISO 400. Tripod mounted, natural lighting.

As Ramamohan said, "simple but effective", and I would say it, "simple and therefore effective".

For my taste, and it is very ideosyncratic, I would have reduced the saturation greatly; the essence of this image, in my estimation, does not arise from the color intensity, but from the simplicity of form, lines, and dynamic range; i.e., I think it would work in B&W, and how about a B&W version with just a hint of color?

To my sensibility, that subtle nature would fit this wonderful image well.

Carolyn, you have found a very strong subject with excellent positioning of the colorful leaves in great light. The vertical composition works well, and the focus with shallow DOF not only draws the attention to the colorful leaves abt also separating them very well ftom the BG. Well done. .

When I saw the thumbnail of this I thought the leaves were glowing from light behind! This is a beautiful moment nicely captured!
I like the simplicity of the background and the presence of the tree trunk on the left.

Strong comp Carolyn and a very effective dof decision. I like everything about the image but for me it's the light that makes it work so well.

Carolyn:
Simple and effective. Like the portrait framing, the cascading leaves, the right DoF with just hints of structures in the bg. Very nicely done. :toast:

The glowing colors of the leaves are great. The bare stem adds nicely to the story of fall and falling leaves. I find the oof leaves near the upper right edge somewhat distracting and think that burning them in could minimize the distraction.

The background it's really beautiful, Carilyn, an emotive and mysterious mood.
Cheers.
